The AWS DevOps Agent is an autonomous AI agent designed to enhance incident response and system reliability by acting as an always-on, virtual team member.

It integrates with various tools such as Amazon CloudWatch, GitHub, ServiceNow, and others to identify root causes, recommend mitigations, and manage incident coordination.

The agent operates independently to reduce mean time to resolution and improve operational excellence by learning system dependencies and providing proactive recommendations.

It uses an intelligent application topology to map system components and their interactions, aiding in identifying potential deployment-related causes during investigations.

AWS DevOps Agent manages stakeholder communications during incidents by updating tickets and relevant Slack channels with its findings, ensuring efficient incident management and coordination.

Amazon Web Services has announced a public preview of AWS DevOps Agent, a new service focused on incident investigation and operational analysis across cloud environments.

The release introduces the AWS DevOps Agent as part of a broader category described by AWS as frontier agents. These systems operate autonomously for extended periods and handle multiple concurrent tasks without continuous human input. In this case, the agent is applied to operational incident workflows.

During production incidents, engineers often examine telemetry data, recent deployments, and system changes across several tools. The AWS DevOps Agent aggregates metrics, logs, deployment events, and configuration data during investigations. It correlates this information with recent activity in source code repositories and deployment pipelines, including integrations with GitHub and GitLab.

Observability data can be ingested from services such as Amazon CloudWatch, Datadog, Dynatrace, New Relic, Splunk, Grafana, and Prometheus. Deployment activity is tracked through integrations with GitHub Actions and GitLab CI/CD. Additional tools can be connected through a bring-your-own Model Context Protocol server, including custom internal systems.

The agent interfaces with incident management platforms and collaboration tools as part of its workflow. Built-in integrations include ServiceNow, with support for other systems such as PagerDuty through webhooks. Investigation updates and timelines are surfaced in connected ticketing systems and Slack channels as incidents progress.

As part of its operation, the service constructs an application topology that maps system components, dependencies, and deployment history. This model is used during investigations to associate incidents with configuration changes, resource limits, or component failures observed in the environment.

AWS DevOps Agent is available in public preview and can be configured through the AWS Management Console, with integrations spanning observability platforms, source code repositories, CI/CD pipelines, and incident management tools.
