Understanding Complex Helm Charts: Dependencies, CRDs, Lifecycle, Ordering, and Hooks
Helm Rollback Workflow
A rollback in Helm re-applies the exact rendered manifest from a previous successful release revision. Running helm rollback triggers the following sequence:
Identify Target Revision
Helm fetches the specified release revision (e.g., revision 3) from the release history. This includes the rendered manifest, input values, and chart metadata.
No Re-Rendering
Templates are not re-rendered. Helm reuses the manifest exactly as it was stored - no value merging or templating is performed again.
Pre-Rollback Hooks
If the chart revision includes pre-rollback hooks, Helm executes them before applying the old manifest. These hooks can prepare services or data for schema or state reversal.
