RKE2: The Next Generation

In 2020, Rancher Labs introduced RKE2, their second-generation Kubernetes CNCF-certified distribution. RKE2, also known as RKE Government, was designed to address the limitations of RKE1 and to provide a more lightweight, secure, and efficient Kubernetes distribution. RKE2 developers leveraged the best components of RKE1 and K3s to create a distribution that is easy to install, secure by default, and "built to run on mission-critical infrastructure, whether on-premises, in the cloud, or at the edge."
