Encryption Key Rotation

Kubernetes clusters also use encryption keys to secure sensitive data at rest. These keys are used to encrypt and decrypt secrets stored in etcd. To maintain the security of the cluster, it is important to rotate them regularly. This can be easily done through the Rancher UI via the following steps:

  • Click on Global > Cluster Management
  • Next to the cluster you want to rotate encryption keys for, click on the three dots and select Rotate Encryption Keys
