The telecommunication industry is modernizing their networks with cloud-native network functions (CNFs) using Kubernetes. However, existing Kubernetes-native objects fall short for network-intensive workloads, so outside open-source projects associated with Kubernetes were used to address feature gaps.
Google Cloud is introducing Network Function Optimizer, a Kubernetes-native multi-network approach with software-based data-plane acceleration and traffic steering capabilities, providing strict traffic separation and performance and latency controls.
