Meta has acquired Manus AI for approximately $3 billion, bringing one of the most prominent autonomous AI agent platforms into its consumer and enterprise ecosystem, according to a company announcement released Monday, December 29.
Manus AI develops general-purpose autonomous agents capable of executing multi-step digital tasks such as market research, software development, and data analysis with limited human supervision. Meta confirmed that Manus's technology will be integrated across its consumer and business products, including Meta AI, while the Manus service will continue to operate as a standalone product.
Manus AI was founded in 2023 by Xiao Hong and Yichao “Peak” Ji, initially in Beijing, before relocating its headquarters to Singapore as it expanded internationally. The company focuses on turning natural-language requests into completed workflows, positioning itself as an execution layer for AI systems rather than a conversational assistant.
According to Manus, the platform is already serving millions of users worldwide and has processed more than 147 trillion tokens, while provisioning over 80 million virtual computing environments since launch. The company disclosed in mid-December that it is generating more than $100 million in annual recurring revenue through monthly and yearly subscription plans.
Prior to the acquisition, Manus AI raised a $75 million Series B round in April 2025, valuing the company at approximately $500 million, according to TechCrunch. Reported investors included Benchmark Capital, Tencent, Hongshan Capital, and ZhenFund.
Meta stated that Manus will continue to operate and sell its subscription service, with its team joining Meta while maintaining continuity for existing customers. Xiao Hong, CEO of Manus, said the acquisition would not alter how the product operates or how decisions are made internally.
A Meta spokesperson confirmed to Nikkei Asia that Manus AI will discontinue its services and operations in China and will no longer have any Chinese ownership interests .
Meta described the acquisition as part of its broader effort to deploy autonomous AI agents capable of executing end-to-end tasks across consumer and enterprise environments. Manus's technology will be used to accelerate the development of agent-based systems within Meta's platforms while remaining available as an independent service.
